Q: I am in the process of restoring a 1990 Plymouth duster with front end damage. Problem is... The hood looks like it cannot be fixed. I don't want to pay the $300 plus for a new one. Any ideas as to where I could find a used on in the Joliet, IL area? Being more specific about the raised hood... The engine requires that the hood be raised (or pressed) from the manufacturing process. A regular Sundance engine has a smaller engine which doesn't need a raised hood. Below is the link to a picture of a Duster with a raised hood. Thanks for your replies... http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/6/65/1993_Plymouth_Duster_green.jpg The hood needed has a bulge in it. When I got the car, it was in need of front end work. And since the work is almost complete, what is needed is another hood with a bulge or (raised hood) as I like to call it. Not a single modification has been done to the engine since I obtained the vehicle. Everything is stock. And the old hood fit perfectly at one time before the damage occurred. Just in need of that hood with a bulge. Sorry for not being more specific. And thanks again for your information.
A: There are two types of bulge hoods for P-body cars. One for the four cylinder cars, the other for 3.0. You can't use a four cylinder hood on a 3.0 car. It wouldn't close without damaging the hood. The only difference in the two hoods is really one thing. The bracing is adjusted to clear the 3.0's intake manifold. The reason you need a bulge hood is because Chrysler never made a regular shadow with a 3.0 You can use sites like www.car-parts.com to locate a 3.0 hood.
