bmw returned from impound with fault ,do i have to pay to get fixed

Q: my bmw was sent to impound yard, when i went to pick it up ,it wouldnt start, engine management light was on ,took to garage they said timing belt had slipped, impound yard ,says they are not responsible ,could have happened any time ,cost me 120 quid to get fixed, should they not pay as the car was in there possesion....

A: As much as I hate to have to say I would have to agree with the impound. The timing belt is to far in to the engine bay for any tow company to mess up. The belt should be replaced around 60k miles sometimes less just to be on the safe side. A timing belt that breaks during driving can throw the heads in your cars engine (happened to my bmw 318i) and be VERY costly. So sadly in the end there is nothing that you really can get out of this from them. A belt ages, wears and breaks. Feel lucky you were not driving when it broke :)
