Do you get better performance from AWD or RWD?

Q: BMW M3 vs Audi S4 come to mind.

A: Big A is right on the money again. 'Taker will never die' is on crystal-meth. 4wd,quattro, call it what you will, is great for a dark wet night on narrow country lanes, but at some stage, it is all just gonna feel like what it is... A load of heavy steel under the car. That weight means you need bigger heavier brakes, which means the suspension must be beefier to take the weight... The weight issue feeds itself! Among my fleet is an Alfa 75 (called the Milano in the USA) which had a light all-alloy engine up front, and the gearbox on the rear axle, to give 50:50 weight distribution. Porsche did the same with its' front engined cars, the 924, 944, 968 and the 928. The nose will ALWAYS turn in, you can balance your line thru a bend with the throttle... these cars can out-drive Imprezas and Evo's if you have the class.
