Audi A4 problem?

Q: I bought a 1997 Audi A4 Quattro a week ago with an invitation to bad luck. The reverse gear and the top gear have gone bad. The gears indicator on dash screen has gone bad. But, the car runs good and smooth on drive and the check engine light is not ON. I am completely baffled with this situation. Can anybody guide me?

A: VW and Audi are really maintenance nightmare. Many people have problems with the display on the Audi. As for the reverse and top gear, that's something that your Audi dealer will have to inspect. Most people don't realize that tranny oil has to be changed from time to time. On most cars, the tranny oil is supposed to changed every 30K miles (yes just 30K miles). Audi originally said that their tranny oil is good for the life of the tranny. Then after many failures they revised their statement saying that the life of their engine / tranny is just 100K. WTF !!!! 100K???? The translations is you need to change the tranny oil and filter at least every 100k miles. === My advice is to get rid of it before you spend even more good money after bad. Sorry to hear about your bad luck. But with Audi it isn't just bad LUCK. It is their technology. === I own 2000 Audi A4. When they work, they are a beautiful car. The problem is that they are very expensive to maintain and difficult to diagnose (for anybody else - other than the dealer). Good Luck... http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080624134808AAwNkgi&r=w#EKxJWXrIUWeFUIPpHXLh
