A: My goodness, someone is very biased toward German cars. I admit that I have a preference toward European cars, but to slam Lexus??? What is that guy thinking? I am in the auto industry and I was invited to the big Lexus LS 460 event a couple years ago. Lexus brought a BMW 750Li and S550 to compete against their new LS 460. My first impression was that Lexus has stepped up to the class of the big MBZ and BMW. The BMW looks spartan compared to the Lexus. The BMW is definitely more of an enthusiasts car, but it feels and looks old. Don't get me wrong, each of these are world class cars, so I'm talking about small nuances that push one above the other. The LS 460 drives great, but you feel the weight as the car transitions from left to right and during braking. Lexus engineering has not figured out how to control the suspension like their German competitors. Lexus did figure out how to make their new car feel solid, yet so smooth, quite and supple. Now we get to the king, S550. This car is the world class leader - Hands down! What an incredible car. You sit inside and it is perfection! You drive this car and you don't feel the weight. Mercedes had the best all around luxury car. BMW may outperform the Mercedes and Lexus may out gadget the Mercedes, but as a whole package based on the market this car was designed for, there are no peers! If you get the chance, drive all three and you'll know why. I drove an A8 a while back and Audi has done an remarkable job on this car. I still don't think it can compete with the S550, but I actually like the A8 over the 750Li. If I were over 60 years old, I might just choose the LS 460 over all these cars - I want to be pampered in luxury and I would also want the most reliable car. Sorry Mercedes, but the most reliable, trouble free car I've ever owned was a Lexus. My Mercedes cars have all had some bugs to work out. Ditto for the horrible maintenance costs for our BMW. And shame on Audi for building a car that is so unreliable and expensive to keep on the road - I've owned one Audi and I will never buy another one.
