Q: I can't really tell if the engine quits before or after the fuel pump gets noisy. Sometimes the stoppage is temporary, like a second, and the engine recovers and the noise goes away. Sometimes it lasts longer, and I have time to turn off the ignition, and turn it right back on, and the engine returns to life and runs just fine until it happens again. I have gone a mile and it cuts out 4 times, and I have gone 40 miles without a single engine stoppage. Is there a valve in the system that can cut off fuel flow without shutting off the fuel pump? or is the temporarily noisy pump actually not pumping at all while noisy, and it fixes itself on occasion? Any ideas?
