performance chip and insurance?

Q: hey, so i reaaaaallly want to chip my 2001 audi a4. but someone was telling me i'd probably have to inform insurance company and also the manufactuer warranty would be void. i'm the orig owner of the car anyway and it's out of warranty so that may not matter but worried about insurance...

A: well nowadays, you don't have to sauder a new chip on, it's just flash loaded. so there's no real way the insurance co would know unless they went and scanned the software on your car. with that being said, i think if you do notify them that you're modifying the car, your rates might go up but if anything happens to the car, they cover the extra expense of modifications....depends on your carrier really...hope that helps.....
