Q: Hi all, I wa driving back from work on friday and it looked like my headlight bulb on q side had gone. After stopping turning them off and back on they both illuminate. I have Gas discharge bulbs and thought they last for ages. Anyhow the bulbs are working now but i can hear a high pitch noise coming from the engine bay can distinguish if its coming from a headlight or the back of the engine and the bulb that had not worked on friday once warmed up is very purple in colour. Does this mean the bulbhas gone or that there is something else? Cheers.
A: My parents had an A6 that did that. I think the ballast on the HID lamps just takes a while to charge up enough to illuminate those bulbs. Just wait an extra second between parking lights and driving lights on the switch. Seemed to work for them.
