There is also an adjustment to gear lever /shift rod alignment.This involves removing the lever gaiter/console etc depending on trim. Difficult to explain but there is a special tool required,this goes through a hole and the gear lever is slacked on a pinch bolt until it all lines up.Have a look and see if you can spot the hole,a correct size piece of steel rod will probably do the job.Older models could be set under the bonnet using a drill for a tool.
