acure TL type S?

Q: I just bought an acure TL 2005 where can i buy the Type S package? or the badging and rims at least?

A: First, it's important to understand the differences between the models: Type S enhancements are: - RL drivetrain...upgrade from 3.2L to 3.5L motor - RL transmission...more robust, quicker shifts - Factory A Spec Package - NAV - Backup camera - Misc. cosmetic mods...exhaust tips, rims, front end, interior LEDs changed from blue to red, etc. Some things you won't be able to change, like the drivetrain, at least not without a huge expense. You might be able to secure the Acura A-Spec package at a dealer...not sure if they're still made/offered. The A-Spec package is comprosied of: - body kit - upgraded rims - upgraded tires - upgraded front brakes (Brembo) - upgraded steering wheel - upgraded struts - plus some other misc. items The A-Spec kit runs ~ $5-6K, if memory serves me well. What Acura did to their 'base' TL in creating the 'Type S' was include the factory's aftermarket A-Spec kit on the cheap while dropping in the more potent RL drivetrain...plus they worked in some rather minor interior/exterior cosmetic tweaks. Acura then slightly detuned the base model chassis for '07-'08 in order to widen the handling/performance gap between these two versions, offering a more touring oriented 'base (3.2L) model'. Please note that you can pick & choose what upgrades you perform by puchasing from the larger aftermarket parts community...some items might actually be of higher quality/performance level than what the A-Spec package delivers. For example, you could choose to add either Tein or Koni struts...both offer some top-of-line, race level components. A further suggestion is that you might get onto ACURAZINE.COM, where you'll find a rather large & active community of TL enthusiasts who've already discussed every conceivable item one might think of...there is lots of information readily available that should help you.
