Q:

A: If by stock you mean just slapping on a Vtec head onto the stock blocks of the CRV and LS then it would depend one which block and which head used. Here are the conditions I'm going to assume: Stock block would mean stock pistons, crank, rods, etc... Stock head would be stock cams, springs, etc... Both motors would have to be combo with the same tranny. Now, anything like that mated to a b16a head will yield lower compression compared to anything mated to a b18c1 head. Why is because the b16 head has a larger combustion chamber. Higher compression = more hp & some tq. More displacement = some hp & more tq. Pre '99 CRV blocks has lower cp than the 99-00 versions. These 99-00 can be compariable to the LS motors in terms of compression and hp power wise. Compression here is about 9.0:1. A 99-00 CRV block mated to a b18c1 head will probably tromp any other stock combo. Still inferior to the stock vtec counterpart.
